Hero Honda renamed Hero MotoCorp

Date: 29 Jul 2011

Following its divorce from Honda Motor Company, Hero Honda Motors Ltd. (HHML) has been formally renamed as Hero MotoCorp Ltd. In the run-up to the unveiling of its new global brand identity, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer received the necessary statutory approval from the Registrar of Companies (RoC) for the changeover to the new name. Earlier last month, the shareholders of the company had approved the changing of the name. Hero MotoCorp Ltd. will draw upon the rich legacy of HHML, which has continued to be in the coveted position of World No.1 two-wheeler manufacturer for 10 consecutive years, since 2001. The new name is the first step in the rebranding exercise that commenced earlier this year. As a next step, Hero MotoCorp Ltd. will unveil its new global brand identity in London, United Kingdom, on August 9th. Dr. Brijmohan Lall, Chairman, Hero MotoCorp Ltd, said “Today is a historic day. It is not just a change of name; it marks the ushering in of a new era that will unlock the immense potential of this company to build its own capabilities to grow beyond boundaries and set new benchmarks. As we set out on this exciting new journey, we look forward to the continued support of all our stakeholders including dealer friends, suppliers, employees and all our associates.” Announcing the new name, Pawan Munjal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Hero MotoCorp Ltd, said, “The change in name is the first big step towards further strengthening the company’s leadership in the two-wheeler industry. It marks the beginning of a new era of innovations – be it in the field of technology and product development or customer satisfaction and expanding our footprint across global markets. While I am announcing a new name for the company today, I assure you there is much more to follow. Do wait for August 9, 2011 for the unveiling of the brand new identity of Hero MotoCorp Ltd and the excitement that will unfold in the near future.” Wolff Olins, a part of the Omnicom group, had been engaged to work on the new brand identity, including the brand architecture, brand name, brand logo and brand positioning. The company has also roped in Law & Kenneth (L&K) as a creative partner to give shape to the communication for launching and establishing the new brand.
